How to have better crops, plants, and flowers –

The focus is simple….improve the soil and the crops will improve.

But the “how to” is where some of us could use the help.

So….

Skidaway Farms Organic Coordinator, Janet Waldie, has invited known expert, Peter Hartel to speak to us on soil improvement as it pertains to organic gardening. Hartel was a Professor of Environmental Ethics for Georgia Power as well as a Professor of Soil Microbiology in the Department of Crop & Soil Sciences at the University of Georgia. Now a Professor Emeritus, Hartel helped start UGA’s Certificate Program in Organic Agriculture and was responsible for teaching Introductory Organic Farming before he retired in July 2011.  He continues to write and has just completed a chapter, “The Soil Ecosystem”, for the upcoming edition of the “Georgia Master Gardener’s Handbook”.

* Prof. Hartel will cover a range of topics, with a special focus on Skidaway Farms’ soil (he has already conducted several soil tests.)
* There will be a Q&A session and an on-site consultation at the Farm!
* Bring a notepad and your questions for Professor Hartel.
