Your fall garden is calling…

One Farmer’s acorn squash and fall tomato plants have geminated on her kitchen window sill…getting ready to move to larger pots before their final trip to the Farm in September. The soil temperature is a perfect 76 degrees inside the air-conditioning! Other Farmers continue to harvest their bounty of okra, eggplant and peppers as the days of August unwind slowly towards Labor Day. Second Harvest donations continue to impress the folks at this wonderful charity… this past weekend the Farm collected 32 pounds of vegetables from those of you who remain so generous with your extra food! The Farm’s total in donations amounts to 195 pounds so far! Bravo to you! The rain has made for a weedy-wonderland at the Farm! So make sure to stay ahead of the weeds in your plot and also in the pathways next to your plot… these ornery weeds can spin out of control in a whip-stitch with all this rain! Remember the Farm’s policy on neglected plots: If your weeds are 12″ or higher, the Governance Committee will consider it abandoned and will mow it down. You’ll have two weeks to reclaim it and pay for the service, otherwise, we will rent it to someone else. No notices will be given. Please refer to our weed policy on the Farm’s website here. So don’t let the weeds take over. If you are out of town, you can contact Willie Hughes (507-6802) or Mario Mendez (484-6881). They have both done this kind of work for other Farmers in the past. You’ll appreciate their work when you return from vacation and don’t have a forest of odd greenery smothering your peppers! (8/21/12)
